Curly Toe Deformity

When William was born, the last two toes on his left foot looked a little, well, squished. We were a little concerned, but they told us it probably happened because of the way he had been curled up in my womb, but that it would go away.

Well, it didn't go away. The doctor said it was genetic, someone in our family must have had it too. We asked- no one did.

We were told eventually, it will flatten out, especially once he started walking. He's been walking since he was 10 months old. It hasn't seemed to change. So we got a referral to see a pediatric podiatrist to give us some peace of mind.

This is William as we were waiting for the doctor. He just sat in the chair and read the whole time.

If you believed that last sentence, well, you don't know William very well yet. That is what I WISH could be said about the wait. This is more what it was like (although he did read for a bit).

Turns out it is called Curly Toe Deformity. You can't do anything about it. It WILL eventually flatten out. It is genetic. You can get surgery, but that usually causes more problems.

SO . . . . we just need to be patient.

But at least now, we know what it is called.

My baby has the exact same toe...on the same foot! It is genetic, and since jordan and I are half second cousins ;)they probably get it from the same distant relative! ha! ha!
